Hugelbed Diary 2: Finishing the bed, and first sowing and planting.

The first steps of making the hugelbed are shown here.

The finished hugelbed with the first green showing.

The finished hugelbed with the first green showing.

On the new video below, the next steps are shown, from adding the last few layers and sowing and planting the first seeds and seedlings.

The hugelbed has grown, and it is being grown òn as well. Two thirds of the roughly 13 meter long structure is now more or less finished and in actual use, and the first planted seedlings and the first sprouted sown seeds are adding more green every day against the gold of the straw mulch. Trying to imagine that, if all goes well, the straw won’t be visible any more within a few weeks is hard, but that’s what’s supposed to happen.

The next video will show the bed all finished, and hopefully an awful lot greener.

And once this bed is finished, we’ll move onto our few hectares of meadow, and start making hugelbeds there.
